BiographyHistory

Maxwell Dunn was a prolific writer and adaptor of radio plays, serials and documentaries for the ABC, the Macquarie network and its subsidiary Artransa. Dunn began his working life as an insurance agent in Launceston, Perth and Adelaide but his passion was for acting, producing and above all, writing. His serial Jungle Drums appeared on ABC radio in 1937. Others works followed; Stateroom One, Light Sinister, Moon Magic, There Are Three Sisters and Dishonour Be My Destiny. In the early war years Dunn became Production Manager and later Programme Manager of the Macquarie radio network, writing and devising serials and series such as Thirty Minute Theatre, Star Theatre and The Playwright Presents. Dunn wrote adaptations for the Macquarie Radio Theatre and wrote many episodes for the nation-wide feature series Mantle of Greatness (1948). In 1950 Dunn joined the United Nations Radio and Television department, working in New York and New Delhi. He returned to Australia shortly before his death in 1965.
