Sue Saliba grew up in the western suburbs of Melbourne. She worked as a high school English teacher before studying creative writing at RMIT. Inspired by a talk from the Dalai Llama, she developed an interest in Buddhism and moved to Thailand for 18 months. This experience would inspire her novel Imago, which was set in Thailand. Saliba returned to Melbourne, completed an MA in creative writing at Melbourne University, and subsequently taught novel writing at RMIT. In 2010, Saliba was living on Phillip Island, Victoria.
