BiographyHistory

'Richard started his career as a DoP by default. With an interest in photography from an early age he met sculptor Michael Cusack at University. Michael had some models that he wanted to animate and Richard had some photographic knowledge so he became the cinematographer.

'From shooting stop motion animation, Richard's experience rapidly expanded as he graduated and moved into the industry, to include all types of special effects and then on to live action.

'In 1985 Richard and Michael started Adelaide Production Company, Anifex. Richard received accreditation from the Australian Cinematographers Society in 1992.

'Richard wears two hats at Anifex, being the Producer as well as DoP on most jobs. As the Producer he sees the entire job come together on the screen, having first seen it in what may have just been a scrawl on the back of an envelope. As DoP he is closely involved in the 'hands on' part of the creative process.

'Richard lives in the beautiful Adelaide Hills with his wife, children's book author Carol Chataway, and their three sons.'
