Script-writer, producer, and director.
Born in Cardiff in the Hunter Valley, Yahoo Serious (who changed his name by deed poll in 1980), attended Glendale East Public School and Cardiff High School. He originally attended the National art School in Sydney, from which he was expelled. Following this expulsion (which he notes on his official website was 'for satirical artworks'), he co-wrote, co-produced, and directed his first film, a feature-length documentary called Coaltown, which explored the socio-political history of the coal-mining industry. The following year, he created the television series Lifestyle, which won a Penguin Award for Best Educational Documentary.
He is is best known, however, for his three films: Young Einstein (1988), Reckless Kelly (1993), and Mr Accident
(2000). Each film presents a fantastic alternate view of Australia: the
first two, in particular, represent alternate history (as a sub-genre of
fantasy fiction).
Serious's long-term collaborator was Lulu Pinkus, prior to their divorce in 2007.
