BiographyHistory

An Irish novelist and poet, MacGill wrote a number of works on World War I, including The Diggers: The Australians in France. Although MacGill appears not to have visited Australia, he writes as one familiar with this country and its people, perhaps through shared wartime experiences, and quotes Australian poetry in The Diggers. A number of MacGill's war poems were published in Australian magazines and journals.
