BiographyHistory

Thomas Lockyer Bright grew up in England and was a minister in a non-conformist church for a time. While in London, he co-edited the Wesleyan Times. In Australia, Locker worked with Argus, Express and Age newspapers. He was the co-editor of the Melbourne Age (1854-1856) and first editor of the Melbourne journal My Note Book. He was leader writer for the Hobart Town Advertiser and also worked on the Tasmanian Mercury before spending some time in New Zealand in the early 1860s. Returning to Australia, he became editor of the Mercury (1865-1868). Immediately preceding his death, Bright had been editor on the Bendigo Evening Star.
