BiographyHistory

Mary McConachy was an English missionary. She had been in Palestine at the outbreak of World War I, and subsequently moved to Cairo, where she established and worked for a number of soldier's aid organisations, including the Australian Comforts Fund. She was mentioned in despatches in recognition of her efforts. The articles she wrote for the Kia-Ora Coo-ee are notable for their largely sympathetic portrayal of the people of Palestine.
