— Appears in: Magpies : Talking About Books for Children , July vol. 39 no. 3 2024; (p. 12-14)
'Have you ever revisited the book series you loved in childhood? Re-reading the stories that shaped and moulded one into a reader as an adult brings an interesting perspective; you relive not just the story but also the emotions you felt when reading it as a child. You might love a story even more now as an adult thanks to the newly-added layer of nostalgia.' (Introduction)

'The book industry runs rampant during August : Book Week, author signings, tours, school visits, and the announcement of the winners of the annual Children's Book Council Book of the Year categories. For each author on the various shortlists, on equal footing to take home the Book of the Year prize, it is a breathless, flurrying time of excitement, nerves and crossed fingers. The shortlist has been made available for several months by the time August rolls around, so anticipation is high.' (Introduction)

— Appears in: Magpies : Talking About Books for Children , September vol. 38 no. 4 2023; (p. 4-7)
'Hazel Edwards loves quirky stories, people and experiences, all the ingredients that make a good book. Her best known work is the seminal classic There's a Hippopotamus on Our Roof Eating Cake, first published in 1980, and still thriving 43 years on. This was Hazel's third book for children, inspired by her 4 year old son Trevelyan who insisted builders on the leaking roof of their Melbourne home were actually a clomping and stomping hippopotamus. As has happened all her life, Hazel used quirky things happening to spark a story and ran with it, crafting one of the world's most recognisable picture books.' (Introduction)
