'Reality Bites is Australia's premier literary non-fiction festival. The inaugural festival in 2008 was held at the Majestic Theatre in Pomona. In 2009, the festival was presented as a season of literary events. But in 2010 the new home will be in and around the environs of the new Cooroy Library, in partnership with the Sunshine Coast Regional Council Learning Communities.

Previously, the festival was presented by the Creative Noosa unit of the Noosa Council but since amalgamation, this entity has disappeared. With a desire to keep the festival going and growing, a group of committed individuals formed the Sunshine Hinterland Writers' Centre Inc. which has been successful in securing seed funding from Commonwealth, State and Council arts funding bodies.
