Rose Maud Quong studied at University High School and passed her matriculation examination at the University of Melbourne. She worked in various positions in the public service, but her main interest was in the theatre. Quong was one of the founders of the Mermaid Play Society and, in 1924, she won a scholarship to study drama in London.
Once in London, Quong found a niche as a broadcaster and actress specialising in Chinese roles, and immersed herself in Chinese culture and literature. She published Chinese Wit, Wisdom and Written Characters (1944) and the translation Chinese Ghost and Love Stories (1946).
From 1939 onwards, Quong based herself in New York where she continued to work on the lecture circuit and the stage. She died in Midtown Hospital, New York and is buried in Rosedale cemetery, Linden, New Jersey.
