Script-writer and television producer, best known for his work on Stargate and Stargate: Atlantis, and his creation of science-fiction television program Sanctuary.
Born in Melbourne, Damian Kindler emigrated with his family to Toronto, Canada, when he was young. He began working as a script-writer on Canadian television in the mid-1990s specialising in programs with a strong fantasy or science-fiction element. His work in this period includes scripts for Kung Fu: The Legend Continues, F/X: The Series, Earth: The Final Conflict, PSI Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal, Code Name: Eternity, The Immortal, Relic Hunter, Galidor: Defenders of the Outer Dimension, and Night Visions.
In 2002, Kindler began his long involvement with the various programs in the Stargate franchise, beginning with his work as a script-writer for Stargate SG-1, then in its sixth season. He worked as both script-writer and producer for both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis.
In 2007, Kindler released the eight web-based episodes of what would become his successful television program Sanctuary, in which scientists run a secret containment and research facility for non-human lifeforms. Sanctuary ran for four seasons between 2008 and 2011 before the network announced its cancellation in 2012.
Though Kindler has not written for Australian television programs, he has written for the American-produced/Australian-filmed fantasy-drama The Lost World. He is also linked to the Australian-based American production BeastMaster, but his specific scripts for this progrma have not been traced.
