Benson Saulo was born in Bordertown, South Australia. His Grandmother was a Wemba Wemba (Swan Hill) woman, and his Grandfather a Gunditjmara (Warrnambool) man. Growing up in Tamworth (Gomileroi Country) New South Wales, he began working at the age of 15 through the ANZ bank Indigenous Traineeships Program, which he completed in 2005. After completing his HSC and his traineeship he studied Business at the University of Technology in Sydney, and worked for the ANZ Foreign Exchange, eventually being offered the role of an Assistant Manager in Business Banking.
He has been a Business Analyst with the Indigenous Employment and Training team, co-ordinating Cultural Awareness programs within the bank. He has also held a voluntary position with UN Youth, and was appointed the 2011 Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations, the first Indigenous Australian to have been appointed this position. He has participated at board level for Reconciliation Victoria, Aboriginal Advisory Board to the Victorian Electoral Commission, and EastWeb (a youth lead philanthropic board focusing on Indigenous, Refugee and Asylum Seeker community initiatives).
In 2012 Saulo became the National Director for the Indigenous Australian Youth Leadership Academy.
