BiographyHistory

Solomon Levey, born to a poor Jewish family in London in 1794, was convicted of theft at around age 20 and transported to New South Wales, arriving in Sydney in January 1815. By 1826, when he returned to London, Levey was among the wealthiest men in NSW. In England Levey became involved in a land settlement scheme for the Swan River colony in Western Australia which failed. Levey died in London in 1833.
