'Walter Smith worked in many fields, prospecting, droving, driving camels, bird-trapping and mining. With his great bushcraft he was in demand for all kinds of expeditions, including the 1931 Eclipse Gold Expedition which was associated with Lasseter's supposed gold reef.'
