Doug Hendrie won the inaugural Sensis Student Journalism Award in 2004, while completing his final year of Media & Communications at the University of Melbourne.
Hendrie lived and worked overseas for much of 2005 but returned to Melbourne in 2006 where he did reporting and feature writing for six papers including the Melbourne Times.
After two years as a reporter and feature writer, he decided reporting wasn't for him and left to try his hand as a freelance feature writer. Since the start of 2008 he's been writing for Sunday Life and marie claire magazines, with small pieces published in Good Weekend. (Source: Griffith Review online)
