BiographyHistory

Lauren Williams grew up in Melbourne, Victoria, attending Mt. Waverly High School. She became known as a performance poet in the late 1970's. In 1995 she was invited to read at the 5th Festival Internacional de Poesía en Medellín, Colombia. This inspired her to undertake a degree in Spanish language at La Trobe university. She has since read her own translations of her work in Madrid, Barcelona, Costa Rica, and Medellín, where she returned in 2002. Williams has been the poet-in-residence on Radio National's Arts Today program, and co-convenes the La Mama Poetica readings in Carlton, Melbourne, Victoria.
