BiographyHistory

Marsh lived in Australia from 1840 until 1855, and during this time held extensive pastoral holdings in the New England and Darling Downs districts. He was a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Council in the years 1851-1855. On returning to England, Marsh entered politics and held the seat of Salisbury in the House of Commons in the years 1857-1868. In England, Marsh retained his Australian connections, and he served for a number of years as an honorary representative of the Queensland Government. He was also a Queensland Commissioner at the London Exhibition of 1862. Marsh made two return visits to Australia in the 1860s and 1870s.
