BiographyHistory

Mick McLean was born around 1888 at the Pirlakaya well in the central Simpson Desert. He had a deep and broad-ranging knowledge of the Aboriginal mythology, songs, and languages of the north-east region of South Australia. McLean was the brother of Topsy McLean and a relation of Maudie Naylon Akawiljika (qq.v.).

For eight years (ca.1920-1928), McLean was a police tracker, based in Adelaide with the South Australian police. He also spent many years as head stockman on Stuart Creek Station.
