Ella Simon was born in a tent on the edge of Taree, New South Wales. Her mother was Aboriginal and her father was white. Simon established the first Country Women's Association (CWA) branch, a pre-school and a gift shop on the reserve. Simon was made a Justice of the Peace in 1962, and was probably the first Indigenous J.P.
