'When Words Take Flight: a collection of short stories by the 2012 finalists of The Sydney Morning Herald Young Writer competition.
'In its 27th year, The Sydney Morning Herald Young Writer is a premier short story competition held each year for senior students in years 10-12 from New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory.
Students submitted an original story including the 2012 Young Writer Trigger word, FLIGHT to be judged by a panel of authors, journalists and teachers. From over a thousand entries, 13 regional finalists were chosen by the judges.
'For the first time, these winning stories have been collated into an anthology of short stories, showcasing the 13 regional finalists' original stories. The book also includes activities for students to help develop creative writing skills, and original illustrations by Herald cartoonist John Shakespeare, and is available as hard copy or ebook.
