Gwen Belson Taylor has had a long association with Brisbane, where she was reporter and occasional feature writer for the Telegraph. She enjoyed theatre, writing and producing plays that included collaboration in a full-length musical comedy with Erich John, a Brisbane musician. She was a teacher with the Queensland Education Department for twenty-five years. Teacher! Teacher! (Jacobyte Books, 2000) recounts Taylor's often humorous experiences as a teacher in the 1950s. 'One Potato, Two Potato', another segment in this electronic text, is a reminiscence of her childhood during the 1920s and 1930s.
Taylor broadcast a series of original sessions of poetry on Radio 4BC and humorous talks for the ABC. She has acknowledged James Devaney (q.v.) as a writer who encouraged her over many years. The poem, 'Vale, Old Sailor', included in The Stars Look Down, is dedicated to him.
