Born into the Kheodal (Crocodile) and Samu (Emu) clans, Aaron's family originally came from Saibai Island in the Torres Strait in 1947. He grew up in Bamaga, in the Cape York Community.
In 2005, Aaron's career had changed from health worker in Bamaga to actor and writer/director in the Australian film industry. He has served on the board of SB and Screen Queensland.
In 2023, he was one of five First Nations delegates to attend the Auckland Writers Festival as part of the Australia Council First Nations Literature Cultural Exchange delegation.
His memoir So Far, So Good : On Connection, Loss, Laughter and the Torres Strait, co-written with Michelle Scott Tucker, was released in 2022.
