British-born and educated, Miriam Margolyes has been in a long-term relationship with Australian professor of Indonesian studies Heather Sutherland since 1968, and became an Australian citizen in 2013. She lives in Australia, as well as in England and Italy.
She is the author of two memoirs, both of which focus more on her professional life (largely in England and the United States).
