Joanne W. Jones worked as a copywritter for Leo Burnett Advertising in Sydney prior to moving to Hong Kong in the late 1970s and continuing a career in advertising. Jones returned to Sydney in mid-1990s and trained as a counsellor.
In addition to her memoir When the Bough Breaks, Jones has also published poetry, including haiku.
