BiographyHistory

Lesley Spooner, daughter of Eric Spooner (q.v.) and Mary Berry, was educated at Aberfeldy School, Turramurra, and Presbyterian Ladies' College (Pymble and Orange). After completing secretarial training, Hordern began work as a cadet journalist at the Sydney Morning Herald; she later went on to gain a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Sydney and Diploma in Librarianship from the University of New South Wales.

Spooner married Marsden Hordern in 1953 and often travelled with him to the UK on buying missions for the Hilton Hordern fine-art print gallery. Her interests included gardening, needlework and writing. In addition to editing a volume of her father's diaries, Spooner wrote the non-fiction works Children of One Family (1985) and Monuments and Memorials (1995).
