BiographyHistory

John Fenton took over his family's sheep property Lanark in the Western District of Victoria in the late 1950s. The property was environmentally degraded but over the ensuring decades Fenton planted trees and created wetlands and wildlife reserves until the property became sustainable. The story of his work is told in his autobiography The Untrained Environmentalist (2010). Fenton received an honorary doctorate from RMIT University in 1997.
