Emile Sherman, who holds a Masters Degree in English Literature and a Bachelor of Law Degree, started his professional career in journalism before entering the film industry. In 2000 he founded Ocean Pictures, a feature film production and distribution company that produced such films as Phillip Noyce's Rabbit-Proof Fence, Paul Goldman's The Night We Called It a Day, and Ted Emery's The Honourable Wally Norman. Sherman also produced Rod Freedman's award-winning documentary Uncle Chatzkel (2000).
Through his current company, Sherman Pictures, he has produced Opal Dream (directed by Peter Cattaneo) and Neil Armfield's Candy (2006). Sherman Pictures has additionally acted as executive-producer and Australian distributor for Anna Reeves' Oyster Farmer (2005).
