  • 'X.B.' was a writing name used by William Forster. This is indicated in the second of the articles 'Mr. Secretary Forster as a Literary and Political Man', which appeared in the Southern Cross, 7 January, 1859, (p. 2). In the article the reviewer discusses Forster's 'Sonnets on the War', reproducing the second of the sonnets that appeared in the Empire in 1856 under the name 'X.B.
