Dr Gloria Davies received her training in Sinology at the Australian National University and the University of Melbourne. She has published on a diverse range of historical, cultural and political issues in Chinese studies and has an abiding interest in the differences between Chinese and Western approaches to critical inquiry. Chinese intellectual history, modern Chinese literature and culture are the main areas of her research but she has also published and/or supervised graduate research projects on overseas Chinese history, migrant labour and social security in China as well as on issues of gender, globalization and development in Asia.
