BiographyHistory

Vernon Hopkins was educated at St Peter's College, Adelaide. On leaving school he worked for some three years in the Bank of Australasia, at Adelaide. He then moved to Sydney, where he worked for shipping agents G.S. Yuill & Co. Hopkins was a keen sportsman, he was a good grade cricketer and he represented New South Wales at lacrosse.

During World War I, Hopkins served in the 5th Field Ambulance and was attached to the 17th Battalion AIF. He served at Gallipoli in 1915 and subsequently in Belgium and France. He died on 21 September, 1917, as a result of wounds received at Menin Road, Ypres. At the time of his death he had attained the rank of Second Lieutenant.

Hopkins contributed to The Anzac Book (1916).
