'In an exhilarating start to the film, a brave Aboriginal boy (Reid) is engaged in a battle with police, fighting with all his might. Eventually subdued, he is sent off to a remote monastery – and home to orphaned boys – run by Sister Eileen (Blanchett). The kindly nun has a calming effect on the new boy, and he also forms connections with Sister Mum (Mailman) and George (Blair) who manages the farmlands. An attempt at bullying the new boy falls flat, and he soon becomes an established, unique presence at the monastery. But he possesses unusual powers, and as Sister Eileen’s religious zeal intensifies, things begin to unravel. '

'From the lens of Academy® and Emmy-award winning Australian filmmaker Eva Orner, Burning takes an unflinching look at the unprecedented and catastrophic Australian bushfires of 2019-2020, known as ‘Black Summer.’ Fueled by climate change, the nation’s hottest and driest summer ever recorded resulted in bushfires that burned over 59 million acres, killed an estimated three billion animals, and affected millions of Australians.  Burning is an exploration of what happened as told from the perspective of victims of the fires, activists and scientists.

'The preceding years of drought plays directly into the ongoing hot-button issue of Climate Change, with the film drawing comparisons between government inaction & media perceptions, and a bushfire season that would wreak an unprecedented level of destruction upon the landscape – as well as posing questions about how we move forward as a nation to ensure this piece of history is never repeated.'

Julie-Anne, a marginally successful career woman, comes home from a hard day at the office to discover that her mother has locked the cat in the house all day and that she is expected to prepare dinner. As she cooks the mashed potatoes and sausages, she tells her mother and the cat (an indifferent audience) about a recent promotion at work. Julie-Anne's rant about her job suggests that she is close to a breakdown and the narrative culminates in burned sausage and mashed potatoes all over the floor.
