Neil Balanves had a long career in the entertainment and media industries. His work has included roles with Rigby Publishers, the Hamlyn Group and Southern Star (a television production and distribution company).
Balnaves served on the boards of many charitable organisations and was the founder of The Balnaves Foundation, a philanthropic trust supporting work in the fields of medicine, the arts and Indigenous affairs. Sydney's Company B Belvoir is among the organisations to have received financial support through the Foundation.
Balnaves died unexpectedly in a boating accident near Tahiti, aged 77.
