Paula Stafford was best known in Australia as a bikini designer. Stafford studied dress design at the Emily McPherson School of Domestic Economy in Melbourne and, after a period as an army nurse during World War II, settled in Queensland. Although her bikini designs were controversial for the time, Stafford's career quickly developed and she ran a successful clothing manufacturing and supply business.
