Dinah was born toward the end of the 19th Century. She was named Nyukaya after a large hill close to the Northern Territory-Western Australian border and 'she was given the name Dinah by settlers who came to the Pine Creek area.' The language spoken by Dinah's family was Malngin, which is similar to Kija.'
Before her death, 'Dinah had become the matriarch of the community at Warmun, in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. She was seen by other community members as the link between traditional life and the modification of cultural life' caused by colonisation. Dinah is the mother of Queenie McKenzie (q.v.).
