Nelly Thomas has worked in various jobs such as factory hand, nutrimetics consultant, policy and project coordinator with the Victorian TAFE Association, weighbridge officer, research officer with Equity Research Centre, and support worker with the Family Violence Sector. In 2003, Thomas won the Raw Comedy competition run by the National Triple J at a Comedy Festival. Thomas has gone on to use her comedic skills to help young people, for example as a facilitator at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. In 2004, Thomas mentored 'high-risk' young people, encouraging them to get into arts. By 2005, Thomas presented a commissioned piece called 'The Condom Dialogues' and the 'No Means No' Show.
