BiographyHistory

William Stanley Jevons came to Sydney in 1854 to take up a position as an assayer at the Sydney Mint. Returning to England after five years, Jevons went on to become the first Professor of Economics at University College in London.

Jevons kept detailed diaries during his Sydney-sojourn and credited his time in Australia as the source of much of his thinking in social and economic reform.
