BiographyHistory

Born in Slovakia just before the outbreak of World War II, Paul Drexler was transported to Terezin concentration camp (also called Theresienstadt ghetto), in German-occupied Czechoslavakia, with his mother and grandmother, in 1944. Estimates suggest that barely 100 children survived Terezin, where 15,000 had lived over the course of the war.

In 1948, Drexler arrived in Australia with his mother: his father had died in Germany. His search for information about his father is the subject of his memoir, published in 2006.
