Brian Nicholls describes himself as a 'wanderer, truck driver, dishwasher, deckhand, advertising executive, television producer, lecturer [and] author'.
Nicholls worked at various jobs after leaving school at fifteen. In 1960 he moved to London and then travelled through Europe and Asia. Nicholls studied for three years at the London School of Film Technique and later became a film editor. He worked with the BBC and, on his return to Australia, with the ABC.
