BiographyHistory

William Edward Butterfield was a school-master, journalist and editor. At various points, together with his wife, he ran schools in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. As a journalist and editor, Butterfield worked on a number of 19th century Australian newspapers, including the Argus, the Empire, the Guardian, the Singleton Times and the Queensland Times. At the time of his death he was working in the Queensland Education Department.
