BiographyHistory

A film division of the 20th Century Fox Corporation, Fox Searchlight Pictures was founded in the USA in 1994. The company specialises producing and/or distributing independent and British films, as well as non-English-language films, and is variously involved with the production and/or distribution of these films. Prior to the creation of the Searchlight Pictures division, Fox released its independent films under the banner of 20th Century-Fox International Classics. Among the films released by International Classics have been Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (1973), Bill Cosby: Himself (1983), and Reuben, Reuben (1983).

Fox Searchlight Pictures greatest success to date has been Slumdog Millionaire which won the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 81st Academy Awards (along with seven other awards). Other Fox Searchlight films receiving Best Picture nominations include The Full Monty, Sideways, Little Miss Sunshine and Juno.
