Coco Schumann is a jazz guitarist who grew up in Germany in the 1920s and 30s. Of Jewish heritage, Schumann was denounced during World War II and spent two years in three concentration camps: Theresienstadt, Auschwitz and Dachau. Schumann appeared in the Nazi propaganda film 'Der Führer schenkt seinen Juden eine Stadt', shot in Theresienstadt, in which Schumann plays drums as a member of the 'Ghetto Swingers'.

Following the war, Schumann reconnected with the jazz scene in Berlin, but then decided to migrate to Australia. However, he stayed in Australia only a few years, choosing to return to Germany, where he continues to perform. His autobiography, which includes recollections of his time in Australia was published in 1996.
