Jimmy Dries was a jockey. In 1918, at the age of 13, he won his first race ride.
'Dries was apprenticed to George Cushion...at Tamworth and learnt from champion rider Massa Read (q.v.). Dries rode a number of winners during his career and won races such as the Narrabri Cup and Tamworth Newmarket. His greatest feat was to ride the six-horse program at a meeting in Moree during the 1920s ... At the conclusion of his riding career, Dries took up training [horses]'.
