BiographyHistory

Pat Gamananga's family moved to Darwin from an outstation near Milingimbi during the Second World War. Born in the bush near Kululuk Beach, Gamananga grew up in the Northern Territory travelling around with her family living on a rich diet provided by the land. Gamananga learnt bush skills from her mother and aunties until she went and stayed with her promised husband who taught her cultural knowledge and dance. After leaving her husband at 27 years of age, Gamananga worked in Health Centres until she became an Aboriginal Nutrition Teacher.
