BiographyHistory

Jerry Jerome was a famous Australian boxer belonging to the Yiman people of Queensland. He won the Australian middleweight title in 1912 at the age of 38, having 64 bouts between 1908-1915. Also known as 'Jumpin Jerry' he was a gifted entertainer who threw lightning fast punches. Jerry Jerome was also a skilled stockman, horsebreaker and runner. He was granted an Exemption Certificate which allowed him to be paid for his work. Jerry Jerome used his boxing fame to speak out about the unfair treatment of Aboriginal people and demanded equal rights. He is remembered as a talented fighter inside the boxing ring and a courageous fighter for social justice outside the ring.
