BiographyHistory

Originally from Queensland, Aedan Whyatt's experience in the Australian public service and in international relations influenced his work as a playwright. He received Australia Council for the Arts support to develop 'Horizons of the Yet Unborn' (2006) and 'Anti-Clockwise' (Write in Your Face Initiative 2008), both plays dealing with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Whyatt also received funding from Arts Queensland and Australia Council for the Arts to write 'The Silence' [originally entitled 'I, Witness'], a play exploring the Rwandan genocide. In 2005 Whyatt received an Australian Young Achievers Award in the Arts. In 2010 Whyatt was an affiliate writer with the Street Theatre, Canberra.

The Back of Beyond 2010 single work drama

'Like Geneva, Canberra is built around a lake and is home to a transient population constantly in flux: the politicians, political advisers, and public servants, a coming-and-going breed of nomads that contrast to those born and bred in the city. The Back of Beyond ... explore[s] the intersection between politics, the service and those living in suburbia from the perspective of the various, and at times, conflicting parties of Canberra society.'
