BiographyHistory

James Catnach established his printery at 2 Monmouth Court, Seven Dials, London, in about 1813, after the death of his father John Catnach (1769-1813), also a printer. In the 1820s and 30s, Catnach became one of the leading producers of broadside ballads, enjoying a particularly rivalry with another Seven Dials printer, John Pitts.
