Charlie Strachan started his script-writing career on The Sullivans in 1976. In the mid-1980s, he wrote for New Zealand television, including scripts for The Seekers (1986), starring a young Temuera Morrison and described as a series of 'fables' about three children who, put into foster care as children, come together as adults to seek out their parents, and for Shark in the Park (1990-1991), a drama covering the professional and personal lives of Wellington police officers.
Returning to Australian television in the early 1990s, he wrote for such programs as G.P. (between 1991 and 1995), Heartbreak High (in 1997), Good Guys, Bad Guys (in 1998), and All Saints (for which he wrote at least twenty-two episodes between 1998 and 2008).
Since 2000, he has contributed scripts to Murder Call (2000), McLeod's Daughters (2001), Cybergirl (2001), and the animated children's series Flipper & Lopaka (series three, 2005).
