Western Australian Methodist pioneer and missionary, Armstrong was appointed an interpreter and protector for the Aboriginal people of Western Australia in the late 1830s. He contributed to George Fletcher Moore's A Descriptive Vocabulary of the Language in Common Use Amongst the Aborigines of Western Australia, with Copious Meanings, Embodying Much Interesting Information Regarding the Habits, Manners and Customs of the Natives and the Natural History of the Country (1842).
