BiographyHistory

Jackeroo Lirrawi is the grandson of Jawoyn man, Yiworrondo, or Jungle Dick, and the nephew of Lulu Jilimbirrnga. As his English name suggests, he spent his younger years working as a stockman for Elsey Station. His Aboriginal name, Lirrawi, means 'black cockatoo' and is a mark of his connection to Gurrayan, a black cockatoo place at Goondooloo, a small property immediately to the north of Elsey.
