Clyde Holding represented the seat of Richmond in the Victorian Legislative Assember from 1962 to 1977. He was elected to the Federal House of Representatives in 1977 and represented the seat of Melbourne until his retirement in 1998. Holding's roles included Leader of the Opposition in Victoria and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs at the federal level.
A State Memorial Service for Holding was held in the Great Hall of the National Gallery of Victoria on 16 August 2011.
